Introducing Morgan, Here to Support Your Volunteer Journey
At Share Skipton, it’s the energy of our volunteer team that propels us forwards: running our extensive Library of Things and exploring ways to help Skipton become a fairer and more sustainable place to live. We’ve only been open a few months but the whole idea has really struck a chord, and there’s been just as much interest from people wanting to volunteer as those dropping in to borrow!
Recognising the importance of offering a rewarding, cohesive experience to volunteers (and, in turn, an amazing service to our members), it’s thanks to a generous £10,000 grant from the Two Ridings Community Foundation that we’ve been able to take on a permanent member of staff to tie it all together.
And so we're thrilled to introduce Morgan Spicer, our new Volunteer Co-ordinator! Morgan aims not only to welcome and settle in newcomers to our ever-expanding team, but make sure each and every person continues to be properly supported and their efforts fully appreciated.
Moved to England from the States about fifteen years ago, Morgan shares our vision of a connected community in which we all help each other out – in fact she’d already been making a difference to people’s lives by volunteering with the Samaritans. Alongside that is an impressive background in graphic design: you might have seen her work before without realising, in international magazines and on big-name websites. Since starting with us she’s done an outstanding job with our more recent information leaflets and event banners. And, building upon past metalworking skills, she’ll be our very own tool and knife sharpener when Skipton Repair Cafés begin later this year!
As volunteers, we’ve already noticed Morgan’s encouraging nature and creative flair shine through in other thoughtful ways. She recently orchestrated a volunteer pizza party, one as a way to say thanks and give us a chance to get to know each other better, and two as an excuse to fire up one of the portable outdoor pizza ovens from our inventory, so we could all see how it works first hand! We were so impressed, some of us couldn’t resist booking it out ourselves to try later with family and friends. (the bunting, drinkware and tables and chairs can all be borrowed too!)
During opening hours it's great to have the same familiar face there – a very reassuring presence and all-round pleasant person. It really feels like Morgan recognises everyone’s unique skills and seeks to understand our different experience levels, then helps us to work well together.
Once again, we’d like to thank the Two Ridings Community Foundation for making this possible. The Foundation helps connect funders to community groups and charities like us in North and East Yorkshire, and their support couldn’t have come at a better time.
