Donate

As a charity, we rely on items donated by the public or local businesses.

Donations

If you have any items that you no longer need, which are still in good, working condition, we’d be grateful if you’d consider donating them to our Library of Things. We’re limited on storage space and unfortunately can’t accept everything, so we ask that you get in touch so we can find out more first, rather than dropping things straight off at our shop.

Please send us a message using our quick form and we’ll reply as soon as possible.

Wish list

The items on our wish list are things we’re frequently asked for or will help us complete something already in the library (eg. a highchair to complete a weaning baby kit). Do you have any of these items that you’d be willing to donate to Share Skipton?

Frequently-asked questions

  • You can drop items off at our shop at 48 Newmarket Street, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 2JB by prior arrangement or we may be able to collect from you. There is limited, short-stay car parking outside.

We’re limited on storage space and unfortunately can’t accept everything, so we ask that you use our quick form to tell us about what you’d like to donate and we’ll reply as soon as possible: Item donation form

Please don’t drop items off without arranging with us first.

  • We ask that donated items are in working order and reasonable, safe condition.

Where possible, we ask that items are donated with their instruction manual and in their original box, to help with lending and storage.

  • When we agree to accept an item for donation, it becomes part of our Library of Things collection and members of the public are able to borrow it.

If we already have one in our collection or we don’t receive requests to borrow it, we might sell it to raise funds to buy other items or go towards the running of Share Skipton.

We ask that borrowers take care of items but, if an item becomes damaged through use and we’re unable to repair it, we will dispose of it responsibly.

  • When you donate an item to Share Skipton, you are passing ownership of it to us and we will use it for the benefit of Share Skipton, which could include lending it to our borrowers, giving it to another Library of Things if we have a surplus of an item and they need one, or selling it to raise funds for Share Skipton. We do not give donated items back.

If you would prefer to lend an item to Share Skipton, please let us know this when completing the donation form and we will keep your details on record. If you lend us an item, you retain ownership of it and can 'borrow' it back from the library when you need it. In this case, we will return it to you as soon as possible, but if it’s out on loan, we will honour that loan and return it to you afterwards. Please note that, whilst we take care to keep items in good condition and endeavour to repair items where possible, from natural use it may not be possible to return it in the same condition it was lent. If an item lent to us reaches the end of its life, we will let you know. We would not be able to give you any money towards a replacement.

If you would like an item you have lent us back, please email hello@shareskipton.org and let us know the item reference number that we gave to you when you lent it to us.

  • There are certain items that we can’t accept, these include:

    • Gas and petrol items

    • Items that require a large amount of maintenance or storage space

We reserve the right to turn down any items that are not suitable for the Library of Things.

  • That’s great to hear!
