About Share Skipton

What is Share Skipton?

Share Skipton is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation formed in January 2023. We came together as a group of individuals with a shared vision to encourage the sharing of resources and, in doing so, reduce waste and consumption while supporting cost-saving for the local community.

By building connections with local partners, volunteers and donors, our goal is to create a lasting impact on the environment and the local economy.

Our Library of Things opened in 2024, Skipton Repair Cafés in 2025, and we’re working towards running skill-sharing workshops too.

What we do:

Library of Things

We run a Library of Things from 48 Newmarket Street in Skipton, North Yorkshire. A Library of Things is like a normal library but, instead of books, we lend items like leaf blowers, tents, drills, disco balls and more. The idea is that we can make these items more accessible to the local community so they can save money and storage space while contributing to a more sustainable world.

In early April 2024 we collected the keys and we opened our Library of Things to the public in July 2024.

Skipton Repair Café

“Reduce, reuse, recycle” sits at the heart of what we do, so we want to support our local community in repairing items where possible, rather than throwing them away.

In 2025 we began running repair cafés: monthly events where the community can bring worn or broken items for help from our volunteer repair teams, also learning how to carry out repairs themselves where possible. They’re great social spaces too, good for a natter or to learn something new even if you’ve nothing that needs mending yet.

Our vision

Share Skipton’s vision is to create a sharing, sustainable Skipton.

Our mission

Our mission is to:

  • Establish and run a Library of Things, which lends items to our communities at an affordable cost;

  • Establish and run initiatives to share, repair and create;

  • Encourage and enable our communities to share resources, reduce waste, repair and reuse more, and promote a circular economy.

Our values

Our values are built around three themes:

  • Environment: reducing waste and tackling climate change

  • Equality and inclusion: enabling everyone to access the things they need

  • Community: creating a stronger, kinder, more sustainable Skipton

We are committed to acting ethically whenever we can.
